TRAINING THE TRAINERS
The Evangelical Association of Malawi (EAM) in partnership with OneHope Ministries conducted a training for children and youth workers from various churches and Christian organizations. The training attracted a total of 43 participants both men and women. The training came barely two months after EAM entered into a partnership with OneHope Ministries aiming at reaching out to thousands of children and youth in Malawi. The model that OneHope Ministries uses to reach out to children and youth all over the world is through biblical material distribution. The materials are written with the context of each individual country in mind. Both the partnership and the mode of ministry carried out is extremely unique and exceptional in that end user of the material receives them for free.
The participants were trained in four different programmes. The purpose of the training was to train Master Trainers, who after successfully completed the training, are to train other children and youth workers in their respective churches or organization to become facilitators of the programmes.
The first programme they were trained in is called 17 stories. 17 stories is Gods big story compiled in individual Bible stories as well as the metanarrative of the Bible to reinforce the way each story in the Bible fits into the larger framework of God’s “Big Story.”
The second programme was African Youth Book. The African Youth Book is designed to engage teens a meta-narrative of the Bible aiming at connecting the real life problems and hot topics with truth found in scripture.
Additionally, they were also trained in Lead Today programme which is a leadership training for young people. This leadership material is developed in partnership with John Maxwell with an aim of empowering teens to lead with biblical principles by showing them a leadership model they can admire.
Lastly, participants were trained in a programme called Foundations for Farming. This programme equips the youths with the skills of no-till farming from a biblical perspective as well as exposing them to biblical truth that applies to their life.
The participants left with enthusiasm displaying a sense of momentum ready to train others and commence the implementation of these programs in their respective churches and organizations.
